AQUILONI CONTROVENTO - KITES UPWIND
by Alessandro Stevanon
25’, Italy, 2010
“The kite against the wind is one who goes against the current, against everyone, against the majority… and perhaps this is what I believed I was”. Th is is what Francesco Nex, a Valdaostan painter born “elsewhere”, says about himself. On the cusp of ninety, he tells the story of his life, his confl icts, and his art. His reflections begin with a walk amongst the houses in his mountains. “The valley should be seen on foot, among the hillsides”. He recognizes the beauty and harmony of the antique stone houses and denounces the ugly modernity that his old, ailing eyes no longer see. This film is a voyage through the life of this intriguing, elderly artist in pursuit of his last, great dream.
