The third part of a trilogy devoted to Uschi; the dairymaid we have already met in the documentaries, Die Sennerin and Die Hoferbin, carries on the work begun by her parents, and finds herself facing an unavoidable choice: to sell the milk cows she no longer has time to take care of alone, as she cannot count on help from her seventy-six-year-old father or her companion, Tom, a pilot who has little time to devote to the barn and hay. Uschi is expecting her second child. Her first, Jakob, is now six. For him, the farm and the forest are home, play- ground, and nursery school. The animals are his family and playmates. Amongst the many jobs he would like to do when grown, one is carrying on the farm. But in the fall, school will begin for him. This documentary tells of a summer in the life of Uschi and her child in a time of choices that will change their lives.
