Every year Edwin Steurer spends the summer months alone with his livestock, on the Wildmoos Alp, in Bregenz Forest, Austria. He is now seventy-four and still carries out this difficult, exhausting work with care and patience. Above all, Edwin works without rushing, taking the necessary time. “Up here there is always enough time,” says the farmer, putting off until tomorrow what he is unable to complete today. This clean, direct videographic recounting isolates the protagonist from his surroundings. The rough images and sounds recorded live testify to the tranquility and slow pace of the daily life of a man who has found happiness in his work. The question remains as to whether his has truly been a happy life.
