Clouds of smoke and vapor rise from the vulcanic craters and geysers of the Kamtschatka peninsula, the extreme Asian strip in the Bering sea. More than 160 volcanoes, in an area of nearly 370,000 square kilometers, have inspired geologists refer to this region as “the firey ring of the Pacific,” while the native people call it “the door to Hell”.
