Everyone in Schams, in the Swiss canton of Grigioni knows her. They call her Donata. She has been a farmer for twenty years, carrying on the farm she inherited from her aunt and uncle. When she began working the fields and raising animals, a woman alone who worked in agriculture was a rarity. Donata Clopath was always a step ahead of the others. She used organic farming techniques, when the other farmers made fun of these methods, and hosted tourists on her property when tour operators wouldn’t have dreamed of advertising “farm vacations.” Being a pioneer isn’t easy, in any way.
