In 1995 a campaign was launched to reintroduce the marmot to the pastures of the Lessinia Mountains. Over three years, the gamekeepers in the provinces of Belluno and Verona captured seventy-two marmots in the Dolomites of the Belluno area and transferred them to the Lessinia. After the winter, the first babies were born. By 2006, the marmots had already colonized the entire upper plain of the Lessinia, from Malga Pigarol to Malga Preta.

Marco Morbioli
Gamekeeper for the provincial administration of Verona since 1992, he has worked in the Lessinia area for eight years, carrying out numerous anti-poaching activities with his colleagues. He has made video documentations of the activity of reintroducing the marmot to the Lessinia and of the capture of roe-deer in the Parco Boschi di Carrega.
