The story of the “13 populations” began in 2007 with the birth of the Council of Peoples of Morelos in defense of their territory. This was an organized fight against a corrupt political system that expressed the economic interests tied to the paving of the territory, to open-air dumps, and to the privatization of communal property. Today, the 13 populations have become 64, and their advisory council represents around 800,000 people, more than a third of the citizens of the State of Morelos.
