According to the ancient philosophers, the springs, the woods, and the mountains commanded all of the tutelary spirits. The genius loci was a metaphysical entity, sensitive and alive, the quintessence of a territory or of a person. Th is fi lm explores and listens carefully in an attempt to discover the spirit of the place that is the Alto Adige, or South Tyrol, a land belonging to various peoples and with hidden borders. For Italians, it is the extreme north of the peninsula, while for Austrians it is the lower Tyrol.
Duccio Canestrini, Luciano Stoffella
Duccio Canestrini (1956) teaches anthropology of tourism as well as film and photography in Lucca and is a member of the Italian Association for Ethno-Anthropological Sciences. He has written documentaries for RAI 3 as well as a television series filmed in Central America. Following his studies at the Scuola di Cinema e Televisione ZeLIG in Bolzano, Luciano Stoffella (1964), has devoted his energies above all to film editing, which he has also taught, and to the development of independent projects.
