Ancher - Tyto alba e la lumaca

Tyto alba e la lumaca
videoconcerto di anteprima
Friday August 21, 2009
9 p.m.

From the twilight of an urban evening, images and sounds soften the sharp corners of the city’s edge, expanding into the rhythms and colors of the area beyond, of the trail, of the woods, and of water, all elements that are present onstage in the form of real recorded sounds. Pieces of silence, bits of green, stimulate us to look and listen, roll
about and slide, blurring the distinctions between music and the sonorous landscape. The realities that mark the two parts of the performance, traceable to the classical city vs. nature antithesis, are at first faithfully reproduced (using elements of the landscape as musical material), then interpreted, and even mangled. Accelerations, slowing down, mournful sounds, loving harmonies, solos that appear and disappear. We move away and then find ourselves even closer.

Ancher
Electric blades-strings and arpeggios of bells, captivating rhythms, melancholy whale songs with ripsaw, theremin, and bows. Between the faithful rock and the sounds of ice following in bossa nova-like footsteps, moving on after making their first CD to compositions in Italian, accompanied at times by an indeniable passion for the so-called pop song (in the noble sense of the term). A multiform trio, multiethnic (three Veronese), multivitamin, multiple of 3.
At ease with sharp, decisive sounds,
at ease with liquid harmonies,
at ease in the fields and in the hills,
at ease with often-changing directions.

Zeno Baldi
guitar, voice, harmonica, melodic contributions
Tobia Poltronieri
guitar, special effects, sonic contributions
Giulio Deboni
drums, ripsaw, theremin, flute, rhythmic and biological contributions
