Murrasarda

40’, Italy, 2009
Five players of diff erent ages and from diff erent regions recount the variegated world of the morra game in Sardinia. They play at university students’ parties off site in Cagliari, at the international tournament in Urzulei, in informal games amongst friends, and at the traditional town festivals. What emerges is a portrait of a game based on technical ability, wit, ethical norms, and behavioral codes and understanding passed down over centuries: a game that is physicality, voice, and rhythm, but also honesty or the ability to cheat.
